Where it all started...
Another big collaboration sponsor that Jade had established was with Mix 93.8fm radio station. Based in Midrand, the community station gained listeners from both Pretoria and Johannesburg being slap bang in the middle of the two major cities. Mix gained popularity and traction through great music, professionalism and hosting a wide variety of events, concerts and collaborations with advertisers and sponsors.
Jade and radio presenter Julio Garcia had become very good friends and he frequently visited Julio at the station for various interviews and public exposure. Through this relationship Jade had developed a desire to be more involved with the radio station. He had gotten to know a number of the other radio presenters on Mix fm such has Damian Schmidt, Lauri Leah Momberg and Al (your pal) Smyth amongst others and had continued with a number of interviews and publicity events with these presenters, live on air.
Jaded Ink’s name, through adverts, interviews, events and sponsors had grown to become a household name to the vast 500 000 listeners of Mix 93.8fm. As such, the artists at Jaded Ink had grown in popularity and gained more traction on social media, the website and by word of mouth showcasing their work.
Through this sponsorship collaboration, the artists at Jaded Ink tattooed the majority of the workforce at Mix and had thus had adverts and brand marketing playing on radio daily. Great deal right…right.
In becoming nearly part of the furniture at Mix fm, Jade was very motivated to learn how to become a radio presenter and perhaps present live on air or, even better, maybe working towards the dream of having a show of his own. After many years of trying to get into the radio industry, through persistency and drive, he was finally given a chance by owner Abbi, to create a show to go live on radio. So he and his good friend Dwane had devised a show, and Desperate Dads was born.
Desperate Dads & The Unded
From a tattoo studio owner and tattoo artist by day, to a radio show host and presenter by night. Jade had now established himself on a different platform as well as the beginning of an exciting new career, a new profession. It was a semi talk and rock music show focusing on being a dad, dad jokes and so much more. From the show Desparate Dads with Jade and Dwane, it then evolved and changed to Desperate Dads and the Unded, with an added member in the shape of Perry.
Rock 'n Drive
After a year and a half of having the show with Jade, Dwane and then Perry, it then changed again as Dwane had priorities elsewhere, sooooo Jade and Perry continued together in the form of The Legends of Loud. The show aired every Wednesday from 19:00 to 21:00 on Mix938.com. The devilish duo gained experience on air also with their day time drive show called The Rock n Drive show, every Thursday afternoon.
91.9FM
Change?… again?… MixFM had then closed down after 17 years of being on air, and most of the presenters then moved over to 91.9FM. And adult contemporary pop/rock station spreading like wildfire on the airwaves. Based in Illovo, Sandton, Sandton is often called “Africa’s richest square mile” – it’s Johannesburg’s main financial hub and home to the JSE (Johannesburg Stock Exchange). So the perfect location for a lively, energetic and fantastical radio station in the form of 91.9FM.
The Legend of Loud with Jade and Perry are a rock and hard rock music show on every Wednesday on 91.9FM and streaming on www.919.co.za from 19:00 to 21:00. The show bursts with musical information about bands, musicians, events, as well as being hilariously entertaining via show segments like Relate to Rock trivia, Riff Rumble, Sense the Substance and many, many more! A variety of interesting and informative topics are also discussed through research and entertainment to inspire the 91.9FM listener. So don’t miss it, every Wednesday, only on 91.9FM.
